For my Community Challenge 2 I will:  

2.1.2  Identify an issue that is important to you and advocate to bring about change. Investigate some of the causes of the issue and share these with your Aware Support Group or another audience. Design and carry out a project that will contribute to bringing about change. Promote the project and the information you have found to a group outside Guiding.   

I have identified that there is an issue with sources of income with regards to those suffering from homelessness and/or severe financial disadvantage. Self-worth and other mental health problems are another block for these people.

For my challenge, I will organise and carry out seven concerts for the homeless community in the city. Two of these concerts will feature some participation from the disadvantaged/homeless community.

This is a challenge for me because:  

The concerts will be logistically difficult to organize as there are no current frameworks or organisations in place. It will involve a lot of personnel, and preconceptions of the homeless may mean that not everyone I ask will be willing to participate.

I have also had no prior experience in organizing concerts, and these concerts will likely be a little more difficult than the average Conservatorium concert – e.g. will probably be outdoors, will need to bring stands and chairs, etc.

In completing this challenge, I hope to (achieve, learn, develop, etc):  

Learn skills and make connections for future music education/outreach projects.

Develop a sustainable practice for others to model elsewhere.
